Just do it

When it comes to new experiences, I’ve found that just jumping in and going for it is the best course of action. Take this business. I’m a pharmacist by trade, and have been working as such for over ten years. For the last 3 to 4 years I have felt like something is missing. It took me a long time to figure out what it was that was I was searching for. Through divine happenstance, I met someone who offers the sort of service that I am starting and thought, “this is exactly what I want to be doing.” So I took the proverbial leap of faith and did the trainings, got a loan, found an office, and filled it up with everything I need to help people get better. Getting better is, after all, why we get into healthcare. I was finding out more and more that I am not helping anyone in my job. And it’s more than just the fact that my whole job is making sure the right pharmaceutical makes it into the right bottle and whether or not those substances are safe or helpful (which I will be going into a lot in this blog), it’s the steady decline of human interaction that I get at work. Early on in my career, I would have at least a couple minutes to go over the major side effects of medicines and vaccines. Now, the patient comes in and the cashier barely has time to ask if they have any questions and then off the patient goes. I’m craving that communication. I have a broad interest set not only in healthcare but in all aspects of the human experience. Whether it’s the safety and efficacy of a vaccine or the cultural relevance of Crime and Punishment in modern times, I am down for all sorts of conversation. I hope to fill that void that’s been missing at work with both this blog and meeting people in the analog. Thank you for reading my first ever blog in its entirety and I hope you enjoy my disjointed and sometimes pedantic ruminations!
